![]() Each specific action that can be performed is best done by a certain player type. Want to take out the enemy overwatch with pinpoint precision? You need a sniper! You get the idea. Want a door booby-trapped or a forward supply base? You need an engineer. In any event, the use of these specializations really adds a whole new dimension to the gaming experience. I'll get to the problem of clearly defined missions later. Each has certain advantages and disadvantage, and, theoretically, all must work together to obtain their goals. The game uses different player "classes" such as Engineer, Soldier, Medic, Heavy Weapons Guy, Sniper, and Spy. TFC uses a relatively unique way to ensure that at least the mission roles are defined. Whether it was clearly assigned roles or clearly designated missions, something never quite rang true about the "team"-play that was supposedly going on. Each, however, was really lacking some element. Several games have attempted to do this in the past Starseige: Tribes and Rainbow Six seem to have come the closest. I welcomed the addition of real team based play and a more cooperative gaming experience. This game is an extension of the original HL 's multiplayer mode, which featured DM and precious little else. I must point out that TFC game uses the exact same gaming engine and control schemes as Half-Life. Is it any good, or does it quickly get mired down in the tired world of DM ad nauseum? Hickory, Dickory, Dock! It can be freely downloaded as a patch for Half-Life. While endorsed and promoted by the publishers, one does not have to buy it in the usual manner. TFC, however, is an odd sort of add-on pack that has not taken the usual route to the gaming world. ![]() TF still has several web sites dedicated to it, even after all this time, and the latest version (2.8) was just recently released. With the addition of new scenarios and character classes, TF quickly became a hit within the Quake community. TF broke away from the traditional "frag fests" and introduced a new team-play aspect. The original Team Fortress is a modification or "mod" to Quake 1 and was released in August, 1996. TFC is from the people that brought you Half-Life: Valve and Sierra. Now, I like co-op gaming and team based play much better than all the others, so it was with some small amount of joy that I found out about Team Fortress Classic ( TFC). They do well in the deathmatch (DM) or capture the flag (CTF) gaming modes, but leave a lot to be desired in the areas of team-play and co-operative gaming. They all offer a dynamic, team-based gaming experience where every connection is critical to victory. Most multiplayer on-line games have fairly shallow gameplay. The combat modes are both standard conditions and scenarios for many games, and unique: capture flags or chip cards, control football, territories or control points, escort, flee, attack or defend and so on. The Demoman is a favorite weapon – a grenade launcher with projectiles that detonate in 5, 20, or 50 seconds after a timer.Fight enemies with a nail gun and poisons. Medic – knows how to heal himself and his own teammates.Possesses tremendous security and a large pool of HP. Due to the weight of the gun, it moves very slowly. Heavy – Huge arms allow him to carry a six-barreled machine gun.Pyro – loves to burn people with his flamethrower, and he himself has increased resistance to high temperatures. The engineer is an excellent builder who builds his towers and knows how to repair them.Sniper is a master automatic sniper rifle that kills with a bullet to the head.Spy – knows how to take on the form of the enemy side and work his way to the rear.Scout – has tremendous speed, but this is compensated for by a small supply of health. The game will feature a full-scale confrontation between the two sides – Red and Blue, and players from all over the world will fight for them.Įach class is characterized by a set of traits and equipment: The character classes in both games are absolutely identical, as is the gameplay. This project became very popular at the beginning of the century, it gave birth to a separate sequel, which received the number 2 in the name. Team Fortress Classic Is a multiplayer shooter originally developed as an add-on for Quake, but later moved and refined as a modification of Half-Life.
